Match Preview: Buxton (A)

Tuesday 09/10/2012

Hednesford Town and Buxton will clash again on Wednesday night in a replay following Saturday’s 2-2 draw, with both sides aware that a victory will take them through to the Fourth Qualifying Round to play either Conference North outfits Colwyn Bay or Guiseley.

That replay takes place tonight at Guiseley and the Yorkshire team will be expected to progress, currently riding high in second place, a step above Buxton and Hednesford.

Hednesford boss Rob Smith was honest in his assessment of Saturday’s game and believes Buxton are favourites with home advantage second time round.

‘Obviously it was frustrating as we had put ourselves in a great position, but we did not play well on Saturday and a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game.

It is most definitely advantage Buxton. Having to travel midweek is always difficult and, at the best of times it’s a hard place to get a result, but we are by no means out of it.’

Darren Campion and Alex Melbourne are still fitness doubts after missing out through injuries on Saturday but other than that Smith will have a full complement to choose from.

The Pitmen will no doubt be keen to avenge the two goal lead they let slip on Saturday, looking towards Nathan Woolfe to reproduce the stunning finish for his sides second goal and hoping Elliott Durrell, usually so clinical in front of goal, benefits from a bit more luck than he had on Saturday when he could have scored three goals in the second half.

‘The players wont need firing up, they want to get through as much as anyone. The draw was a little disappointing really in that we would have liked to have been at home but it is what it is and we will be looking for a victory without doubt.’

A committed away following will travel through the Peak District to urge Hednesford on as both teams will feel they have a great chance to progress to a draw that, while lacking the presence of a Conference side, promises to be a gateway to the First Round Proper and a spot on national TV.
