Match Preview: Port Vale (H)

Monday 18/02/2013

Hednesford Town welcome League Two outfit Port Vale to Keys Park on Tuesday night in a Staffordshire Senior Cup Semi-Final tie that, according to Pitmen boss Rob Smith, is a welcome distraction, regardless of his side’s high-flying position in the league table.

‘We will be going all out to win the game and will be trying our hardest to progress to the final. We will utilise our squad to give other players some minutes on the pitch but make no mistake, we badly want to win.’

The Pitmen saw off lowly Stone Dominoes and local rivals Stafford Rangers in the two previous rounds and the visit of a Port Vale team, currently riding high in the npower League Two, represents a major step up in class regardless of what team The Vale field – a point Smith is keen to make.

‘I have no idea what team Port Vale will put out but I do know that they are in a promotion spot at the moment and cannot think for a minute that they would want to risk any big name players.

However, as our games against Burton, West Brom and Walsall in the past couple of seasons have proved, whatever team they put out will be full of quality professional players.’

Smith’s attitude to Tuesday’s game certainly suggests that those supporters who take advantage of reduced ticket pricing of £6 Adults & £4 Concessions will see an evenly contested game and very possibly see The Pitmen reach their first Staffordshire Senior Cup Final for two decades.
