Match Preview: Rushall Olympic (at Vale Park)

Tuesday 23/04/2013

Hednesford Town have their first chance to give their superbly consistent season a silver-edged tinge when The Pitmen face Rushall Olympic in the Staffordshire Senior Cup Final at Vale Park on Wednesday night.

Hednesford’s route to the final has seen them emerge victorious against Stone Dominoes and arch rivals Stafford Rangers before performing brilliantly in the February Semi Final to overturn a 2-1 deficit against a strong Port Vale side and Rob Smith is keen to see his squad, after playing so well recently under pressure in the league, enjoy the occasion.

‘With the pressurised games and hectic schedule we have had over the last four weeks Wednesday is a really great occasion for the players. The pressure is off with a large ground to play at and we are all very relaxed about the game. Win, lose or draw we will enjoy the match.’

Rushall Olympic are unbeaten in three matches this season against The Pitmen and will fancy their chances of winning the competition for the second time in their history after beating Chasetown 3-1 in the last four, having also knocked out in the Kidsgrove Athletic on the way to the final.

Hednesford will be without Kyle Patterson and Kris Taylor as both players are cup-tied while Sean O’Connor will be hopeful of shaking off the knee injury which kept him out the squad on Saturday against Ilkeston.

For the travelling Hednesford supporters the match will provide a welcome break from the nerves of their current title challenge and with two coaches of fans travelling up the M6 there will no doubt be another impressive turnout at Vale Park.

Any Pitmen followers keen to attend on Wednesday are encouraged to contact the Club on 01543 422870 or 07925 572734 to book the final few seats on the second coach for £8
