Match Preview: Sutton Coldfield Town (BSC Final)

Monday 29/04/2013

Hednesford Town make the short trip to Walsall FC on Tuesday night looking to secure the second trophy of a hugely successful season by winning the Birmingham FA Senior Cup for the third time in their history.

The Pitmen overcame Stourbridge when Dean Edwards’ team last won the competition in 2009 and current manager Rob Smith is confident his players will use the celebratory feeling felt after last Wednesday’s win in the Staffordshire Senior Cup to increase their chances of a victory over a Sutton Coldfield Town side currently occupying 6th position in the league below.

‘The squad have got a taste for victory after last week and it’s great to have the Club competing for honours at the end of the season. Sutton have a lot of players who have played at a higher level so we must match their work rate first and foremost.’

The Royals are currently level on points with Chasetown and Stamford in the battle for the final two play-off places in the First Division South section of the Evo-Stik Premier but a repeat of the performance versus Rushall Olympic would make a shock unlikely.

The Pitmen will be without the cup-tied Kyle Patterson while Neil Harvey, the victim of a very poor tackle on Saturday, is unlikely to be fit to play with a gashed knee.

A coach full of Hednesford supporters will boost the crowd of fans making the short trip to the Banks’s Stadium by train and car and, with an attendance of over 500 expected, The Pitmen players can once again expect vociferous support from the terraces before Saturday’s final day shoot out for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division takes centre stage.
