Match Preview: North Ferriby United (H)

Friday 03/01/2014

Two rivals for last season’s Evo-Stik Premier Division title renew hostilities once again on Saturday, this time in the upper echelons of The Skrill North, as Hednesford Town welcome North Ferriby United to Keys Park desperately looking for a victory after a festive run of two draws and two defeats.

The Pitmen occupied top spot before their game with Vauxhall Motors on Saturday 21st December, but defensive problems have curtailed their title ambitions somewhat and, after conceding 12 goals since that match, Rob Smith’s team have slipped to 5th, four points behind AFC Telford United

Hednesford’s opponents tomorrow have shown somewhat more impressive form, having won four of their last six and the Humberside outfit will draw confidence from the fact they were the first team to inflict defeat on The Pitmen this season, winning 3-0 at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium back in September.

Club Captain Darren Campion is due to return from suspension after sitting out the Telford game so, Jamey Osborne apart, Rob Smith and Larry Chambers should have a full squad to choose from.

Despite torrential rain having fallen at regular intervals in the past seven days, the Club is confident that tomorrow’s game will not fall victim to the weather with the importance of the match to both teams signified by The Non-League Paper’s decision to feature it heavily in their Sunday edition.

After the disappointment and frustration of Hednesford’s 5-3 defeat against Telford on New Year’s Day and the strong form of those teams around them, tomorrow’s clash, so vital in recent years, takes on even more importance as The Pitmen look to get back on the promotion trail.
