Match Preview: Solihull Moors (H)

Friday 14/02/2014

Hednesford Town welcome local rivals Solihull Moors to what will be a rather wet Keys Park tomorrow afternoon as The Pitmen look to recover from defeat against Harrogate Town last weekend.

The pessimists among Hednesford supporters would say that, with leaders North Ferriby United losing against Barrow, The Pitmen missed a chance to go top of the league with defeat in Yorkshire and manager Rob Smith says he has made it abundantly clear that the defensive lapses which cost his team will not be tolerated again.

‘I think I can safely say the defenders know my view on last week’s defending. The performance in general was not too bad; it was the ridiculous defending that never allowed us to get a foothold in the game. We have talked about it and worked on it last night and I expect a massive improvement on Saturday.’

The visitors, Solihull Moors, have their own problems to worry about at the moment having led the division in December only to lose five matches in succession, a run which came to an end with a 2-2 draw last week against Colwyn Bay.

Team news wise, Jamey Osborne, Kris Taylor and Neil Harvey are all likely to miss out tomorrow with Nathan Woolfe and Francino Francis only fit enough to make the bench. Nathan Blissett, scorer of three goals in his previous loan spell has returned from Kidderminster Harriers to join Marvin Robinson and recent new signing Paul Sullivan in the attacking ranks and Smith is positive that the former Chasetown player will make an impact.

‘Paul just needs to get games at this level under his belt. I have seen enough of him in training and games already to know he will be a big success.’

With fellow promotion chasers, Brackley, Boston, Telford, Ferriby and Altrincham all playing teams below eighth place in the Skrill North, Pitmen fans will be hoping that either or any of their strikers are able to secure a vital three points in what is shaping up to be a hugely exciting promotion run-in.
