Match Preview: Colwyn Bay (A)

Friday 14/03/2014

Hednesford Town make the journey up to sunny North Wales tomorrow afternoon, looking to give their faltering promotion charge a much needed shot in the arm with victory against ninth placed Colwyn Bay.

The Bay still harbour outside hopes of a late play-off push themselves and, after The Pitmen lost their fourth game in five in the league at home to Gainsborough Trinity last weekend, manager Rob Smith is aware that his team are struggling at the wrong time but is still keen to stay positive.

‘We have hit poor form at the worst time of the season and missing key players has hurt us. We remain positive but I acknowledge it is going to be very tough on our current form. ‘

The advantage lies with the teams in form and the teams with the strongest squads. We do not fall into either of those categories at the moment but I can assure the supporters that we will give our all to the end.’

Team news wise, Neil Harvey misses out due to personal reasons, Paul Sullivan (ankle) and scorer of his first Hednesford goals in last week’s victory against Birmingham City is very doubtful with Francino Francis definitely missing with a back injury.

Despite Hednesford’s recent struggles, the outstanding start to the season which took them to the top of the league just before Christmas, has at least given Rob Smith a very solid platform from which to launch a final push and, with just three points separating six teams from third down to eighth, those final three play-off places are still very much up for grabs.
