Hednesford Out To Prove New Year Point After Worcester Abandonment …

Hednesford boss Rob Smith has made it clear that his players will be out to prove their performance in the abandoned game against Worcester City last week was no fluke as they welcome the fellow play-off chasers to Keys Park for the first game of 2015 tomorrow.

The referee’s controversial decision to call the players off the pitch at Aggborough on Boxing Day and the subsequent postponement of Hednesford’s game on Sunday against Gloucester, has left Smith and his players chomping at the bit to renew their attempts to keep pace with the pack at the top of the Vanarama Conference North.

‘We need to prove that the Boxing Day performance was not just a one off. Obviously it was frustrating to see the first game abandoned and the next fixture postponed but we are really looking forward to our first game of 2015 and hope the fans will be right behind us.’

After Tamworth’s victory against tomorrow’s opponents on Sunday, The Pitmen dropped down to 12th in the league but, with two games in hand and just seven points separating Solihull Moors in fifth and Hednesford, a repeat result, albeit without the controversy last time round, would set The Pitmen up well for the year ahead.

The lack of playing time for Hednesford at least means that Smith has a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of the match and, with no signing yet made to replace the departed Danny Glover, despite the efforts of the management team over Christmas, a fit-again Paul Sullivan could be given the chance to stake his claim for a starting berth.

A thaw is expected across the Midlands today and into tomorrow morning so there is no pitch inspection scheduled, however all supporters are encouraged to keep an eye on Twitter and the official website for further updates on the state of play.

Finally, all at the club would like to wish supporters a very happy New Year ahead of tonight’s festivities, a victory tomorrow would certainly start 2015 off on a positive note.
