Wright Opts to Join the Pitmen

Wednesday 22/06/2016

Liam McDonald has today swooped to bring in another new face to his Hednesford Town squad ahead of the start of pre-season, with the signing of defender Lewis Wright.

The 20-year-old has most recently been on the books of Solihull Moors after joining last season’s National League North champions from Tividale.

McDonald was delighted to be able to capture the young right-back with a number of sides looking to sign the Midlands based player.

He said:

“Lewis is a young lad with lots of potential. I’m excited to be able to work with him as he is someone who has been highly sought after.

“We beat off the interest of a Conference Premier side along with three others at this level to bring him here and I’m delighted that he has chosen to sign for us.

“He is a very good defender and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop as a footballer. Lewis comes from a footballing background, having been involved in academies around the West Midlands; I believe that this is the right place for him to be at in order to further his education.

“This is a great opportunity for Lewis to develop at the club with him having a good balance at this level of football.”

Wright, who lists spells as a youngster at Birmingham City, Walsall and West Bromwich Albion as well as a stay at Continental Star on his football CV, was looking forward to the challenge of Northern Premier League football.

He said:

“I’m excited more than anything. I made the jump up from Tividale to Solihull Moors last season and I ended the campaign with them after impressing whilst at Tividale.

“I feel that the move to Hednesford will be a great one for me as I want to show people what I can do and I feel that with this group of players we’ve got a great opportunity to achieve things.

“I had a chance to stay at Solihull as the offer was there but I know that the gaffer here has been after me for a while so I went along to meet him at the ground with my Dad and I was impressed with what I saw and heard.

“I like to get forward and attack players and I think this move will be a really good one for me.”
