Hednesford Town 1-0 Crewe Alexandra U21

Wednesday 27/07/2016

A solitary second half goal from Gurjit Singh proved to be good enough for Hednesford Town to defeat a strong Crewe Alexandra U21 side that contained no less than nine players with first team experience.

The visitors also had former Pitmen player Jamey Osborne among their starting line-up as he looked to earn a deal with the League Two side on the ground where he regularly impressed over the years.

The first half proved to be a tight affair with neither side being able to find the breakthrough.

It would be the Pitmen that would open the scoring seven minutes into the second period when Singh picked the ball up inside the Crewe box and fired a shot into the roof of the net from a narrow angle for his first goal of pre-season.

Just over ten minutes later the visitors were awarded a penalty. However Hednesford shot stopper Lloyd Ransome would come to the rescue as he saved Alex Kiwomya’s spot kick in the 64th minute.

In the end the one goal would be enough for the Pitmen to claim the victory ahead of a trip to Tamworth this weekend.
