Match Preview: Heath Hayes (A)

Tuesday 12/07/2016

After starting the pre-season campaign with a narrow victory over Chasetown, the Pitmen make the very short trip to Heath Hayes this evening hoping to make it two wins out of two for new manager Liam McDonald.

The last time we played Heath Hayes was back in November when we secured a 2-1 friendly victory over them.

Our hosts ended their Midland Football League Division One campaign with somewhat of a flourish last season while also claiming the Staffordshire Vase with a convincing victory in the final – meaning that this game will be another test for McDonald’s side.

He said:

“I was pleased with the result on Saturday, although I did reiterate to the lads that there is a long way to go yet.
“The foundations have been set though and there were lots of positives from it but you have to understand that a lot of these players haven’t played together before so it is a case of working on that and getting to know each other.
“We always knew it would be a tough game as Chasetown are going to be competing in the league below but overall we defended well, attacked in numbers and it was a good start.’

“Tonight will be a different test for us as we play Heath Hayes who I know have some good players in their squad.

“It will be all about finding out more about the players and we have got to make sure that we can do the job right.

“I shall be mixing it up a little bit tonight with some of the younger lads who have trained well over pre-season also joining us. Overall I’m looking forward to the different challenge.”

Michael Williams is set to miss the game through injury while striker Danny Glover is also carrying a slight knock that is set to keep him out of the fixture as well.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm this evening (12th) with Heath Hayes informing us that extra parking is available on site through the main car park.
