The Pitmen welcome current Evo-Stik Northern Premier League leaders to town on Saturday when Buxton visit Keys Park.
Our last meeting with Buxton on our own ground came over three years ago now when Pitmen supporters and players famously rallied to clear the pitch of snow in just two and a half days to make sure that the fixture went ahead as planned. That Saturday afternoon at the end of March 2013 saw us record a 3-2 victory on our way to promotion.
After a composed 1-0 victory over Mickleover Sports at the start of the week, Liam McDonald’s side will be looking to further stretch their unbeaten home run in the league on Saturday – albeit against a team that have gained 23 points from their 11 games so far this season.
“This game will be another tough one for us against a Buxton side that currently sit at the top of the league. We seem to have played a few sides that have been up towards the top of the table so far this season but I think this really gives us not only a chance to get three points but also to set a marker down.
“I want to carry on where we left off the other evening as we have set the benchmark and if we can stick to that then we will get a positive result.
“Buxton will be a difficult challenge as they have players in their squad that are experienced and can hurt us, but we are unbeaten at home in the league and if we can get a result then it will be a positive start to what is a busy month.”
McDonald will have a clean bill of health to pick from when it comes to squad selection, with all those that were suffering with injuries in recent weeks now clear of them.
The game kicks off at the usual time of 3pm with Strikers Bar being open before and after the fixture.
