Match Preview: Blyth Spartans (A)

Friday 10/02/2017

Following another mixed week off the football pitch, the Pitmen return to league action tomorrow afternoon with a tough test away at Blyth Spartans.

After a slow start to the current Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign, Spartans have had a strong run in the last few months, which has seen them create a ten point lead at the top of the table.

The last meeting between the two sides came back in the middle of October when a late own goal handed Blyth all three points at Keys Park.

Our last trip to Croft Park came four and a half years ago now when we recorded a 2-1 victory as we came from behind to claim all three points right at the start of a season that would turn out to be very memorable one.

The caretaker team of Gary Birch, Gavin Hurran, Marvin Robinson and Mark Kavanagh take the squad north on the back of two good training sessions this week and are looking to now put a good performance in for all those making the trip.

Although he continues to play a more active role in training, Lewis Wright (knee) will miss the game while David McDermott (knee) and Stuart McNaught (ankle) will face late fitness tests to see if he will be involved.

Following the completion of his loan spell, Iwan Cartwright  has returned to Nuneaton Town, while Callum Roberts has also returned to his parent club Shrewsbury Town. Finally Reece Leek has made a permanent move to Coleshill Town.
