Match Preview: Lancaster City (H)

Friday 25/08/2017

Hednesford Town return home for the second time in a week on Saturday when Lancaster City visit Keys Park.

Our visitors tomorrow gained promotion to this level last season and are yet to taste defeat, having started with one victory and three draws.

This will be the first meeting between the sides since the 2005/06 season when we both were playing in the Conference North. We, of course, also defeated Lancaster during that famous run to FA Trophy glory back in the 2003/04 campaign.

Pitmen manager Neil Tooth will be looking to build on the victory over Halesowen Town in midweek when Lancaster visit on Saturday.

He said:

“It was very pleasing to pick up our first win of the season on Tuesday against Halesowen and get our season going. I thought we controlled the game for the most part and it was very pleasing to keep a clean sheet.

“Tomorrow we face Lancaster City who won promotion last season and they have carried that momentum into this season as they are yet to taste defeat.

“Any side that wins promotion has a ‘togetherness’ and a fantastic work ethic so again today’s game will be a tough test. The league is wide open this year in my opinion and it has started out like the Championship where anyone can beat anyone and from the games we have played so far there has not been much in any of them really so I would again expect a close game today.”

Tooth will have a full squad to choose from with everyone coming through the latest fixture unscathed.

Strikers Bar will be open both before and after the game for both sets of supporters and we hope that you can join us for the game which kicks off at 3pm.
