Match Preview: Shaw Lane AFC (A)

Friday 18/08/2017

Hednesford Town face their second away fixture in a week when Neil Tooth’s side head up to Yorkshire to face Shaw Lane AFC on Saturday.

Both sides go into the game looking to claim their first victory of the season, with Shaw Lane having lost both of their opening fixtures of the new campaign.

For the Pitmen it will be a first ever meeting with Shaw Lane after their rise through the non-league ranks over the course of the last five years finally resulting in promotion last season – with many having fancied them to challenge once again this season.

Tooth will be looking for a response from his team after suffering a late defeat during a five goal thriller against Matlock Town in midweek.

He said:

“Tuesday’s game was disappointing but the beauty of football is that you get to move on quickly. We went through what I thought let us down last night in training and worked on how we can improve going into tomorrow’s game.

“I felt that we created enough chances on Tuesday to be able to get something out of the game but as with last Saturday’s game we didn’t take them and that is an area that needs to improve quickly.

“Luke Rodgers will be back tomorrow and we are also looking to add another attacking player to the squad following Ryan Wynter’s decision to move on.”

Tooth will have a full squad to choose from with Rodgers having returned home from honeymoon earlier this week and now available for selection. We hope that you can join us for the game which kicks off at 3pm.
