Match Preview: Whitby Town (A)

Friday 20/10/2017

The Pitmen return to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League action this weekend as we make the long trip north to take on Whitby Town.

Our hosts on Saturday currently sit two points and two places behind us in the league after a mixed start to the campaign.

Last season saw the Pitmen end their season with a trip to Whitby with us narrowly losing out 1-0 thanks to a second half strike.

Manager Rob Smith is looking for his side to build upon Tuesday evening’s defeat of Rushall Olympic in the Integro League Cup as his team look to get back to winning ways in the league.

He said:

“It’s another long trip this weekend and Whitby never fails to be a difficult place to go, they have a decent home record and our away record is poor, so I will be looking for us to put in a battling performance.

“We had six players injured on Tuesday and I am desperately hoping some of them will be fit enough for Saturday to give us the best chance of a result, but if not I was very pleased with how some lads performed out of position and would have no hesitation asking them to play there again.”

The manager will be assessing the fitness of Alex Melbourne, Darren Campion, Jim Mutton, Sam Oji, Jed Davies and Edji Mbunga before the game.

The game kicks off at the usual Saturday afternoon time of 3pm and we thank those of you who are making the long trip to support the Pitmen.
