Match Preview: Cleethorpes Town (A

Wednesday 15/11/2017

The Pitmen will be looking to summon some midweek cup spirit this evening as we prepare to make the trip across to Cleethorpes Town in our Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round replay.

After playing out a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Keys Park, Rob Smith’s side make the trip across to Lincolnshire this evening looking to set up a home tie against Spennymoor Town in the Third Qualifying Round.

The manager is without a number of players though and is expecting another tough encounter.

He said:

“We have done it before, to go away and get a result when we’ve been up against it, so we’ve got to go out there and show some belief that we can progress.

“It is going to be difficult though and we suffered another blow on Saturday with Tom Thorley coming off with an injury at half-time, and probably out of tonight’s game.

“This comes at a time when we simply don’t have any more central midfielders in our squad. We are right down to the bare bones at the moment and are really unable to do anything about it.”

The manager’s squad is once again set to be tested to its limits with Jim Mutton, Tom Thorley and Alfie Crooks all struggling with injuries and unlikely to be involved while Edji Mbunga is also missing. After impressing on Saturday, midfielder James Fitzgibbon is also missing due to university clashes while Reece King is once again unavailable due to Gloucester City wishing for him not to be cup-tied.

Smith will welcome back Ben Bailey though after the defender missed Saturday’s game through suspension.

The game kicks off at the usual midweek time of 7.45pm and we thank all those planning on making the long trip to Cleethorpes.

One side note, regardless of this evening’s result, our trip to Warrington Town on Saturday 25th November will not now go ahead as planned after the Yellows progressed in the FA Trophy last night.
