Match Preview: Buxton (H)

Thursday 05/04/2018

The Pitmen prepare to return to action this evening, after seeing their Easter Monday game against Rushall Olympic washed out, when we host Buxton here at Keys Park.

This fixture will, hopefully, take place at the third time of asking after we saw two previous attempts fall foul to snow earlier this season.

It has been less than two weeks since we made the journey up to Silverlands – the home of Buxton – when two goals from Danny Glover saw us earn a point on the road in what was an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Manager Rob Smith still has somewhat of an injury crisis on his hands with him set to be without Sam Oji, Matt Curley, James Fitzgibbon and Danny Glover – leaving the Pitmen with just 13 fit first team players. As such the manager is set to call upon those already registered from the Academy system while Pitmen favourite Darren Campion, who is also still registered with the club, is also set to make a return in order to help the club out during this period.

Smith was looking for a response from his depleted squad though following the 3-0 loss at Witton Albion on Saturday.

He said:

“It was obviously disappointing to see the game called off at the start of the week, but in some ways it was a blessing in disguise as it was looking seriously like we might only have been able to field ten fit players – however in another way it has made the fixture pile-up ridiculous, as we can see by having to play this evening.

“I’m grateful for the fans that have stuck behind us. They have been so loyal to us – I think they can see that everyone is giving all that they can and if this support can continue then it would be most appreciated.”

The game kicks off at 7.45pm and we look forward to welcoming you to Keys Park with Strikers Bar open to both sets of supporters before and after the game.
