Match Preview: Mickleover Sports (H)

Friday 20/04/2018

Less than 48 hours after our last home league fixture, the Pitmen prepare to ‘go again’ at Keys Park when Mickleover Sports visit on Saturday afternoon.

We have had somewhat mixed fortunes against Mickleover this season, being well beaten when we made the trip up to Derbyshire in September before defeating them a month later to progress in the FA Trophy here at Keys Park.

Sports sit just behind us in the league table and both sides will be looking to get the three points in order to try and finish in the top half come the end of the season.

After seeing his side earn two draws in the space of the last four days manager Rob Smith was looking for his players to give one last push over the course of the next week, starting tomorrow at Keys Park.

He said:

“We welcome Mickleover Sports to Keys Park for our last home league game of the season. We played them some months ago here in the FA Trophy and got a narrow victory, it was a very hard-fought game and I sure today will be keenly contested.

“Unfortunately, because we have suffered so much with injuries, suspensions and sheer fatigue, our league position has been affected badly, which is disappointing, but we are giving our all in the circumstances.

“We now have another massive week, let’s hope we end it with a trophy and another final to look forward to, but we really need all the support we can get.”

The manager will be without Charlie Gatter through suspension while Sam Oji is also still carrying an injury with Jack Rea facing a fitness test to see if he can be involved.

This fixture will be our last home league game of the current campaign, although we still have a Birmingham Senior Cup semi-final to look forward to on Thursday evening, and we hope that you can join us for both fixtures.

The game kicks off at 3.00pm and we look forward to welcoming you to Keys Park with Strikers Bar open to both sets of supporters before and after the game.
