Pitmen Bring In National League Striker

Saturday 21/07/2018

Hednesford Town Football Club are pleased to announce that striker Dan Cockerline has today joined us on a six-month long term loan deal from National League North side Southport. The loan will expire on 06 January 2019 and there is no recall option attached.

The tall frontman joins the Pitmen as manager Rob Smith moved to bolster his forward line by bringing in the 21-year-old.

Cockerline began his career with Sheffield United before spending time on loan at Curzon Ashton. After leaving Bramall Lane he linked up with Northwich Victoria before landing a move to the National League with Barrow. After a loan spell with Stalybridge Celtic he linked up with Southport 12 months ago.

The striker has experience of this level as well having spent two months on loan at Farsley Celtic last season – where he scored on his debut and went onto impress during that time.

Following the signing, Smith said:

“I know Liam Watson at Southport really well and as soon as he said there may be a chance that Dan could come to us I was keen to make it happen.

“Although still only 21 he has plenty of experience, especially in the National League set-up, and I’m pleased that he has been able to join us for the first half of the upcoming season.”

Cockerline will be available for selection for today’s game against Rugby Town at Keys Park which kicks off at 3pm.
