Match Preview: Workington (H)

Friday 14/09/2018

The Pitmen return home this weekend as we prepare to welcome Workington to Keys Park.

It has been a mixed start to the campaign for both sides, with ourselves yet to record a victory in the league at home – despite having triumphed three times on the road. Meanwhile Workington have seven points from their opening six games but are yet to pick up a point on their travels so far this season.

Last season a goal in the final minute of stoppage time saw the Pitmen earning a point after they had gone behind to a first half penalty.

Manager Rob Smith will be looking for his team to pick up from where they left off in our last home match which saw us recording a 2-0 triumph in the FA Cup against Tamworth.

The manager said: “Matches against Workington have traditionally always been tough. Although they have had a mixed start to the season they are a team that can cause problems and we must be on our guard today if we want to claim all three points.

“After putting in a really good performance against Tamworth in our last game at Keys Park it was disappointing to follow that up with a loss in midweek at Mickleover Sports. I shall once again be looking for a response from the team.”

The Pitmen boss will be waiting on news of injured duo Jed Davies and Callam Mendez-Jones – with the latter having limped off during the first half at Mickleover. Goalkeeper Josef Bursik will once again be available for selection after returning from England U19 duty.

The game kicks-off at the usual time of 3pm and we look forward to welcoming you to Keys Park as we look to get back to winning ways in the league.
