Match Preview: AFC Mansfield (A)

Friday 26/10/2018

Hednesford Town prepare to venture into new territory tomorrow afternoon when Rob Smith’s side travel to AFC Mansfield for our Buildbase FA Trophy First Qualifying Round match.

AFC Mansfield were only formed in 2012 and in recent years have enjoyed success on the field,  with them having secured two promotions in that time to find themselves in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League East Division where they are currently in 15th position with 12 points from their 11 league games.

The Pitmen meanwhile will be looking to have an extended run in the competition that we famously won in 2004 – which will amazingly be 15 years ago when this season reaches its final throes.

Rob Smith was hoping that his side could turn recent dominance in matches into victories.

He said:

“I feel we should have won the last two games given the chances we had, but without sounding like a broken record we have to cut out the silly mistakes that gift the opposition goals.

“Tomorrow will be a very difficult game, we are away from home against a team who will really fancy causing an upset. If we go about our jobs properly we have every chance, if we do not approach it right we will get what we deserve.

“We want to do well in the competition and the players are under no illusions how important this game is.”

The manager is set to be without Charlie Gatter, Stef Galinski and Matt Dodd – who all miss out through injury. Meanwhile Jed Davies has a small chance of being involved, but is also likely to miss out due to a lingering injury.

The game kicks off at the usual Saturday time of 3pm and we thank all supporters who are planning on making the trip. If a replay is required then it will take place at Keys Park on Tuesday 30th October, 7.45pm kick-off.
