Match Preview: Buxton (H)

Tuesday 23/10/2018

It is a quick return to action for Hednesford Town this evening as we host Buxton at Keys Park – a game that should originally have taken place a month ago, only to be called off due to their FA Cup commitments.

Our visitors this evening currently sit in eighth place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League with 23 points from their 14 matches played so far.

Last season saw us taking an early lead in this fixture, only for the visitors to hit back twice and take all three points home with them.

Manager Rob Smith is looking for a response from his side after they twice gave away a two goal lead on Saturday against Matlock Town.

He said:

“To come away with only a point, when we should comfortably have taken all three was symptomatic of our season to date, what could have been. We absolutely dominated them in the first half and then to go two goals into the lead once more and yet allow them to come back and get a point was nothing short of criminal.

“We have good players, we have ability, but we also show lack of character, lack of understanding of the game, and we make some incredibly bad decisions during games which cost us goals. Unless we wise up, and wise up pretty quickly, we will continue to be a mid-table side, which is not what I want.

“Tonight, we welcome Buxton and their managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford. I speak with Paul a lot, he has been very helpful, so I know first-hand they will be well prepared for tonight, it has the makings of a very good game.”

Smith is still set to be without Matt Dodd, Charlie Gatter and Jed Davies through injury – while skipper Stef Galinski will have to undergo a fitness test to see if he can take his place in the line-up after limping off on Saturday.

The game kicks-off at the usual midweek time of 7.45pm and we look forward to your support at Keys Park as we look to gain another victory on our own pitch.
