Hednesford Town 1–1 Bamber Bridge

Sunday 04/11/2018

A Dan Sweeney goal nine minutes from full-time saw Hednesford Town earn a point against Bamber Bridge in this battle between two mid-table sides.

The Pitmen started the game on the front foot and should really have been ahead in the fifth minute when Callum Coyle laid the ball off to Michael Howard but just as the frontman was about to shoot the ball bobbled and he fired well over the goal.

In the 16th minute Sweeney rose highest from a corner but his header went inches over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box.

The visitors started to come more into the game as the half wore on and had a great chance in the 22nd minute when the ball broke for Matthew Argent-Barnes 20 yards out but with just Josef Bursik to beat he lifted his effort well over the goal.

Six minutes later the ball fell nicely to Alistair Waddecar but on the half volley he fired wide of the post.

In the 35th minute Argent-Barnes again saw a good chance come and go before a wonderful fingertip save from Bursik saw the young goalkeeper deny Brad Carsley after he had fired in a low effort from the edge of the box.

HT: 0-0

In the 53rd minute Sweeney did well in the penalty area, only to fizz the ball across the goal with no one able to get on the end of it.

Two minutes later though the visitors would take the lead when a mistake in the Pitmen backline saw Bridge work the ball well to Carsley who teed up Argent-Barnes with the striker making no mistake from 15 yards out.

Just 60 seconds later Hednesford should really have equalised when Howard picked out Josh Craddock but the midfielder headed wide from six yards out.

In the 72nd minute Reece King fired wide of the goal from the edge of the box for the Pitmen before Argent-Barnes did the same at the other end.

Hednesford would equalise though in the 81st minute when the ball broke to Dan Sweeney who drove forward before unleashing an effort from 25 yards that found the top corner of the net.

Two minutes later pinball in the Bridge penalty area almost produced another chance before Waddecar fired a freekick into the wall on the edge of the Pitmen box.

Hednesford almost won it in the second minute of stoppage time when a long throw was flicked on to Howard but the young forward couldn’t turn home at the far post – leaving both sides having to settle for a point.
