Pitmen Youngster Signs For Derby County

Tuesday 23/04/2019

Hednesford Town’s youth section are proud to announce that one of their rising stars last weekend signed a youth contract with Championship side Derby County.

Travis Lewis, aged 9, has been playing with the youth section for the last three years – with the Rams making a move for the youngster.

Youth section Chairperson Stuart Harris said,

“Travis has been playing in our academy for the last three seasons and I had the opportunity to coach him, it was obvious from the first session that he has a great appetite for football. We all wish him good luck and will monitor his progress.”

The signing took place ahead of Derby’s last home game at Pride Park against Queens Park Rangers on Monday – with his family in attendance to watch Travis meet the current first team.

His father, and coach, Huw Lewis said:

“Travis has worked so hard to get this opportunity but he also knows the hard work starts now! I’ve told him to keep enjoying his football though and to enjoy the journey.”

All at Hednesford Town would like to wish Travis all the best as he starts a new adventure and one that could lead to a bright future in the game.
