Match Preview: Witton Albion (A)

Friday 30/03/2018

The Pitmen return to action tomorrow with a trip to Witton Albion – seeing the start of four games in just eight days.

After a morale boosting Integro League Cup victory over high-flying Basford United in midweek, which saw us move into our third semi-final of the season, we go into the game looking to extend our unbeaten run to three matches in all competitions.

Our last meeting with Witton came back in October when a solitary second half goal from Tyler Weir proved to be enough to hand us all three points at Keys Park. Meanwhile, the last time we played at Wincham Park in a competitive fixture came five years ago when we drew 1-1 thanks to a late goal from Ben Bailey.

Manager Rob Smith was looking for his side to pick up where they left off in midweek:

“The last couple of matches have seen us put in some real fight and come away with a deserved point last weekend against Buxton and an excellent victory over Basford in midweek.

“I thought the players went about their jobs well in both games and will they need to be on the front foot again this weekend as we come up against a Witton Albion side that still have play-off ambitions.

“For us it is about building on that cup victory in midweek and seeing where the end of the season takes us as we look to finish as high up the league table as possible.”

Smith, and the club, suffered a blow this week with the news that attacker Jordan Graham had been recalled from his loan at Keys Park by parent club Mansfield Town. Graham leaves the club having scored 11 goals in 31 games and we wish him well for the future.

The game kicks off at 3pm and we thank all those who are planning on making the trip to Witton.
