SWEENEY STAYING AS A PITMAN

Friday 16/10/2020

Hednesford Town are delighted to  reveal that forward Dan Sweeney has turned down a move to a National league North side to stay at the PRG Stadium @ Keys Park.

The forward scored one and created 2 goals on his return to the starting lineup against Stratford Town and the club received the formal approach for 22 year old Sweeney last week with the player being informed but has opted to stay with the Pitmen.

Sweeney said “ For me, it wasn’t easy to turn down the club who asked me to go there, but on a personal level it’s about playing games and getting back enjoying my football, also coming off the back of a near 2 month absence through injury has not only physically affected me but mentally also. On the other hand a club like Hednesford, a giant of a club at this level and above, it’s a place where not only will I feel happy and enjoy football, but the club is fantastic! From the fans, to the staff, owners, players, it really is a brilliant club and it shows as it’s my 4th stint at the club but this time, I’m a Hednesford Town player and not ‘on loan’. I want to help get the club where it deserves to be and be a part of an exciting journey the club is heading for. I am delighted to be staying and I’m looking forward to Saturday and hopefully bringing back three points. Up the Pitmen!”

Sweeney will be available for selection for Saturdays visit to AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
