Pitmen Make Double Signing as Fans’ Favourite Returns

Wednesday 01/02/2017

Hednesford Town Football Club can today confirm that they have bolstered their squad with the signing of two new players.

Returning to Keys Park is fans favourite Darren Campion – with the left-back having previously played over 200 games for the club between 2010 and 2015.

The popular 28-year-old has recently taken a break from football after appearing for AFC Telford United and Sutton Coldfield Town this season and links up with the Pitmen for a second spell.

After playing, and scoring, in a behind closed doors friendly on Tuesday evening, manager Paul Casey moved quickly to sign the full-back who helped guide the club to promotion in May 2013.

He said:

“Darren has kept himself in really good shape and showed me on Tuesday that he is ready to start playing football again.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience and I know that he is very much a favourite of the supporters. We’re delighted to be able to bring him back to the football club.”

Also arriving at the football club is striker Alfons Fosu-Mensah, who has most recently being playing for North Ferriby United.

The 22-year-old is the older brother of Manchester United player Timothy, and arrived in England during 2015 after starting his career in his native Netherlands.

Fosu-Mensah also scored in the midweek friendly fixture, with Casey offering him a deal after the game.

He said:

“Alfons is a big striker who arrives here having played for clubs at a higher level than us.

“He offers us something different and will provide competition in the striking department, having impressed during the game we had in midweek.”

The Pitmen return home on Saturday when we host Barwell at Keys Park, 3pm kick-off.
