Hednesford Town 3-2 Wolves Sporting Community

Wednesday 15/03/2017

Hednesford Town edged into the semi-finals of the Staffordshire Senior Cup after a five goal thriller at Keys Park in which Wolves Sporting Community more than played their part.

After an even start it was the Pitmen that struck first in the 26th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Captain Tom Thorley was able to confidently dispatch his spot-kick into the bottom corner of the net to give his side the lead.

Just 60 seconds later the West Midlands Premier side were level though as Lloyd Ransome was only able to block an initial effort but hot-shot Dan Westwood was on hand to fire home the rebound.

Right on the stroke of halftime Hednesford restored their lead when assistant manager Gavin Hurren swept home from a free kick in by Thorley.

HT: 2-1

Just two minutes into the second period Wolves Sporting were level once again as Westwood latched onto a loose ball and fired the ball into the net to continue his impressive scoring streak.

The game was now very much end-to-end with but it would be the Pitmen that would progress though as Tom Thorley grabbed his second of the game with a far post header with 14 minutes to go.

The Pitmen now host Chasetown in the semi-final on a date to be decided.
