Match Preview: Cleethorpes Town (H)

Friday 10/11/2017

Hednesford Town take a break from league action as our attentions turn towards the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday when Cleethorpes Town arrive at Keys Park.

Two weeks ago we progressed into this second qualifying round thanks to a narrow 1-0 home victory over Mickleover Sports, knowing that a similar result tomorrow afternoon will see us with a chance to face higher league opposition.

Our visitors caused somewhat of a shock in the last round though by winning 2-1 at Buxton – continuing their good start to the season which sees them sitting in third place in the Evo-Stik Division One South table.

Pitmen manager Rob Smith knows that this game won’t be an easy one as he looks for his side to progress into the next round.

He said:

“This weekend we welcome Cleethorpes Town to Keys Park for what I believe is the first meeting between the two teams.

“Cleethorpes had a fantastic season culminating in a visit to Wembley in the FA Vase Final. They have carried this on and have had a superb start this season in both league and cup. We are under no illusions we will have to be at our very best to progress.

“Whilst we have been doing well in the Cups, I really want us to get some consistency in the league, there is still a very long way to go and a run of wins would see us challenge for play-off positions, but we must do this soon.”

The manager will be without the services of Reece King though, with him not being allowed to play by his parent club Gloucester City, while Sam Oji will face a late fitness test to see if he will be involved. Edji Mbunga is likely to miss out again due to a niggling injury which has seen him miss the last month of action.

The game kicks off at the usual time of 3pm and Strikers Bar will be open to all supporters both before and after the match.
