Match Preview: Stalybridge Celtic (A)

Friday 16/02/2018

Hednesford Town return to league action tomorrow as we make the trip north to take on Stalybridge Celtic.

After seeing off Burton Albion in the Birmingham Senior Cup in midweek the Pitmen look to get back to winning ways in the league this weekend as they tackle a side managed by former club legend Steve Burr.

Following their relegation from the National League North in 2017, Celtic have found life equally as tricky this season – however a draw and two victories in their last three league games has seen them find some form as we start to head towards the tail end of the season.

We go into the game looking to record a league double against Stalybridge after a late Danny Glover goal back in November earned us all three points in a 2-1 victory.

Despite Celtic’s lowly position manager Rob Smith was expecting another tricky encounter on Saturday:

“Stalybridge have been on a good run of late and picked up an excellent victory in midweek against a Warrington Town side in the top five – so we know not to treat them lightly as we look to return to winning ways in the league ourselves.

“The victory over Burton Albion was certainly an impressive one for us and I was really pleased with how we played throughout the 90 minutes. Hopefully this is something which we can take into the game on Saturday.”

The manager is hopeful of having James Fitzgibbon available for selection after he missed the last three matches due to a nasty head injury picked up at Farsley Celtic two weeks ago.

Meanwhile defender Darren Campion will continue his return to fitness by linking up with Boldmere St Michaels in order to get some game time under his belt. There have also been two departures from Keys Park with defender Jim Mutton making a permanent switch to Redditch United, after spending the last month on loan with the Southern Premier League side, while winger Mason Walsh has opted to return to Altrincham after the Northern Premier League leaders made an approach for his services again.
