Pitmen Announce Return Of Craven From Boston

Wednesday 28/11/2012

Hednesford Town confirmed this week the signing of Boston United defender Sam Craven, as their promotion push continued apace with an eleventh victory of the season against Ilkeston on Tuesday night.

Craven, returning to Keys Park following a loan spell last season which was cut short by an injury sustained against Northwich Victoria towards the end of the 2011/12 season, was given a place on the bench against The Robins last night, and Rob Smith is pleased with signing a player that will provide competition for places in defence.

‘Sam really wanted to sign for us, which is very encouraging, and he gives us extra defensive cover across the central and left side. Sam can operate in midfield too and he gives us strength and versatility.’

Craven will push the defensive trio of Sam Barnes, Francino Francis and Ben Bailey for a place in the team and Smith confirmed that, with the budget set, a player from the squad will be moved on but stressed the identity of the player is yet to be decided.

‘Unfortunately one squad member will have to go as it’s strictly one in one out with us but a decision will not be made until after the Ilkeston game.’
