Hyde FC 0 – 1 Hednesford Town

Wednesday 10/09/2014

A goal from Jamey Osborne just before the half-time break secured a 1-0 victory for Hednesford Town against a Hyde side whose performance belied their lowly league position but for a profligate performance in front of goal.

Steve Tames had the first of several chances on goal on 12 minutes for the hosts as his header was tipped over by Dan Crane, but from the resulting corner The Pitmen sprung a rapid breakaway as Darren Campion played in James Hurst and, after he sprayed a fantastic pass across the pitch, Alex Melbourne teed up Danny Glover who hit a wicked shot onto the roof of the net.

The game had a rather tetchy feel to it until Hyde came strongly into the game with Tames heading wide when free at the back post before he breezed past Paul McCone, but saw his shot hit the inside of the post and bounce clear.

Tames, McCone and Campion all received bookings for their part in a heated exchange before Osborne’s goal broke the deadlock when Christian Thewlis should have dealt better with a shot from distance after Kris Taylor set the chance up with a precise pass through the defender’s legs.

Hednesford started the second half well and Thewlis made an absolutely superb save to deny Darren Campion a rare goal on the hour mark, after Osborne brilliantly controlled another sumptuous cross field ball by Hurst, but the Pitmen were made to sweat towards the end.

Reece Gray hit a left foot shot from distance which struck the top of the bar and Tames curled a shot inches wide as the Pitmen looked stretched down both flanks as they searched for a decisive second goal.

The away faithful had a nervy final ten minutes as the home side desperately searched for an elusive equaliser and although Hyde enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in their attacking half, Hednesford held on for a first away win of the campaign.

Guiseley are the visitors to Keys Park this coming Saturday as the Pitmen look to build on an important and hard-earned three points.
