Experienced Midfielder Arrives at Keys Park

Monday 06/06/2016

Hednesford Town are pleased to confirm the arrival of experienced midfielder Michael McGrath to Keys Park.

McGrath, who spent the last campaign with Stratford Town, started his career with Aston Villa before having spells with Kidderminster Harriers, Redditch United, Stourport Swifts, Galway and Sligo Rovers in Ireland, and Rushall Olympic.

The 30-year-old is someone who manager Liam McDonald believes will add something different to the side. He said:

“Michael is a ball playing central midfielder who not only sits in front of the back four but also goes forward as well. He is a very intensive player and has a varied range of passing with his dead-ball technique being very good.

“I have known of him for a number of seasons and he actually scored the winning goal against my side last season.

“Michael picked up a ‘Player of the Year’ award last season and he will compliment what we already have.

“He has also been in full-time football, which will help us no end with his experience and he is another good addition to the squad.”

McGrath admitted that as soon as he met with the Pitmen manager then he knew he wanted to join him at Keys Park. He said:

“My aim is to get the club back into the league where they have just come from. It is exciting for me to be coming here and working with the manager  who has been very clear with what his plans are for this season.

“I know this level of football very well having played in this league and above for around ten seasons now.

“I predominantly play in central midfield and like to work the ball around by pressing opponents and getting the team attacking through playing the ball around. I’m now looking forward to the season starting.”
