Hednesford Town 1-7 Burton Albion

Wednesday 21/12/2016

It was an evening to forget for Hednesford Town after they crashed out of the Birmingham Senior Cup at the hands of Championship side Burton Albion with a 7-1 defeat.

Burton attacked from the off at Keys Park and first team player Stuart Beavon’s shot in the fifth minute came back off a post.

But Beavon was not to be denied, in the 14th minute he gave his side the lead when his shot was deflected into the back of the net past Dan Crane.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 27th minute through Joe Sbarra before Tom Flanagan met a free-kick to make it 3-0 with a 33rd-minute header.

Five minutes before the half-time whistle Marcus Dinanga raced down the right and added a fourth from the edge of the box for Burton as their dominance continued.

HT: 0-4

Hednesford substitute Tony Clarke had an early second half chance but keeper Harry Campbell saved his effort.

In the 55th minute the Pitmen were given some hope as Ashley Sammons saw his deflected effort find the back of the net.

However, any thoughts of an unlikely comeback were soon diminished as first Dinanga turned a low ball into the net in the 67th minute for the visitors’ fifth and then Sbarra added the sixth goal for the Brewers two minutes later.

With six minutes to go Sbarra was able to grab a memorable hat-trick as he curled home an effort from 20 yards past a helpless Crane to complete a convincing victory and send the Brewers through to the next round.

The Pitmen must now pick themselves up for their festive Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Boxing Day clash against neighbours and rivals Stafford Rangers.
