Riley Joins Pitmen

Hednesford Town are pleased to announce the signing of experienced Central defender Martin Riley from fellow Southern Premier central side Tamworth.

Riley, 34, began his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers and spent time at Shrewsbury Town but it’s was with Kidderminster Harriers the 6ft 2 centre back really made his name with 68 appearances in the national league earning him a move back into the football league with Cheltenham Town. He then moved to Mansfield Town before joining welsh side Wrexham in 2012 for a season. Returning to Field Mill in 213 he then racked up a further 64 appearances at Mansfield. Riley then went on to have spells with Tranmere, A return to Wrexham, Halifax, Alfreton and Hereford.  He spent last season with Stourbridge before moving on to Tamworth for the 2021/22 season.

Manager Keenen Meakin-Richards said “ we wanted some more experience in the squad and nobody is more experienced than Martin Riley. We are excited to bring him in and really feel he will add that strength and aggression to the team”.
