Hednesford Town v Alvechurch

Friday 27/01/2023

On Saturday Hednesford will welcome Alvechurch to the RACE Stadium for their latest Pitching In Southern Premier Central League game. A quirk of fate sees the league’s bottom six teams all playing each other on the day. As well as
Hednesford (21st ) v Alvechurch (19th ), bottom side Rushden & Diamonds entertain 20th placed Stratford while 17th in the table Barwell travel to Kings Langley who are just one place below them. Many would say that Alvechurch are in a false position in the league as they have played only 19 games, eight fewer than Hednesford following their FA Cup exploits where they reached the Second Round Proper, losing 2-1 at League One Forest Green Rovers after beating Cheltenham Town in the previous round. Out of those 19 league games Alvechurch have played 12 away from home winning two, drawing two and losing eight including their last four at St Ives (1-3), Basford (0-3), Tamworth (0-3) and Ilkeston (0-3). Church’s leading scorers are Jed Abbey with 15 and Danny Waldron with 14
and they have in their squad ex-Pitman Jack Hallahan.

On Tuesday 13th September last year Hednesford travelled to Lye Meadow for their seventh league game of the season, Steve Burr’s first in charge. However an Ethan Sephton goal just before half time was enough to give Alvechurch all three points. Sephton has recently moved on to National League North Boston United for an undisclosed fee.

The game will kick off at the normal time of 3pm but at midday in the Chase Suite there will be an Open Forum with owners Graham Jones and Hayden Dando who will answer any questions that the fans have.

Usual admission charges apply for this match.
