Hednesford Town v Romulus

Sunday 18/02/2024

Hednesford will be hoping that it’s third time lucky on Tuesday 20th February when they entertain Romulus of the Midland League Premier Division in the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup following two postponements. The Birmingham based side play at the Castle Vale Stadium and it was there that they knocked out a young Burton Albion side in the second round with goals from Isai Marselia (2) and leading scorer Luke Keen who has since signed for Coleshill Town. Some of The Roms squad will be familiar to Hednesford fans as goalkeeper Lewis Gwilliams, midfielders Steve Palmer and Jack Sang and strikers Ryan Nesbitt and Rob Hanna have all spent time with The Pitmen while Manager Neil Tooth has been both manager in his own right and assistant manager to Steve Burr at Keys Park.

On Saturday Romulus suffered a 3-4 home defeat to Studley, Jack Sang, Rob Hanna and Isai Marselia scoring for The Roms. The result left them in 13th place in the league with 26 points from 23 games. They have won seven, drawn five and lost eleven of those games, scoring 36 goals but conceding 42.

Hednesford, who parted company with manager Harry Harris and his assistant Steve Hinks on Sunday have reached this stage of the competition thanks to a penalty shoot-out win at Tamworth after the game had finished 2-2 after normal time, Kaden May netting the decisive penalty kick.

Kick off will be at 7.45pm on Tuesday with reduced admission prices of £5 adults, £4 concessions, £1 U16s and parking £1.
A home quarter final tie against Coventry City awaits the winners.
