Clitheroe v Hednesford Town

Thursday 18/04/2024

Saturday 20th April sees Hednesford off on their longest trip of the season to Clitheroe which will also be their last away game of 2023/24. The clubs are the two best supported teams in the league with average home attendances of 762 (Clitheroe) and 761 (Hednesford).

Clitheroe are now out of the running for the play-offs and are currently in 10th place with 52 points from 36 matches. Their away form (29 points) is better than their home record where they have taken 24 points from 18 games, winning six, drawing five and losing seven. Following their last home game, a 4-3 defeat to Hanley Town, manager Danny Caldecott resigned and has been replaced by former Accrington Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell on an interim basis until the end of the season. Leading scorer Sefton Gonzales who has 20 league goals is suspended for their last two games following his red card at 1874 Northwich last weekend while midfielder Amaar Hussain has returned to his parent club Altrincham following an injury.

Hednesford are likely to be without Ryan Brown and Josh Endall due to injury although it is hoped that Blaine Rowe could figure. Lucas Yeomans is still out with a long-term injury. The Pitmen know nothing less than a win will be good enough on Saturday as they trail 18th placed Trafford by four points with two games to play and even that wouldn’t be enough should Trafford win at Kidsgrove.

Clitheroe play at Shawbridge which is off Pendle Road, Clitheroe, Lancashire, BB7 1LZ. The ground has a capacity of 2,500 with cover on all four sides including covered standing for 1,000 and a main stand with 260 seats. Admission is £10 adults, £7 concessions, £5 14–17-year-olds and £4 unaccompanied U14s. Tickets can be bought online via a link on the Clitheroe website, but these incur a £1 administration fee. For Saturday’s game holders of a Premier League or EFL season ticket can gain admittance for £5 on production of their season ticket. At the game there will also be a collection for the Huntington’s Disease Association. Kick off will be at 3pm.
