Official Statement – Investigations following incidents at FA Cup tie

Wednesday 18/12/2013

Staffordshire Police, working in conjunction with Hednesford Town Football Club and AFC Telford United Football Club, have moved to arrest and charge a Cannock man after an incident at a match between the two sides in September 2013.

The incident happened on Saturday 28th September when Hednesford Town played AFC Telford United in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round at the New Bucks Stadium in Telford.

On Monday 16th December Daniel Edwards, 19, of Park Road, Norton Canes, Cannock, was arrested and charged with throwing a missile at the spectators area (throwing a smoke bomb into the crowd). He has been released on conditional bail (he cannot attend any regulated football matches) to appear before magistrates at Telford on Monday 13th January 2014.

This is a strong message to show that incidents of this kind will not be tolerated either at Keys Park Stadium or matches involving Hednesford Town Football Club. We will continue to work with Staffordshire Police and other clubs to eradicate this problem caused by anyone who purports to be associated to Hednesford Town Football Club or makes visits to our stadium with opposing teams.
