Match Preview: Farsley Celtic (H)

Friday 01/12/2017

Hednesford Town enter a month that will see us play no less than eight matches in total, with five of these coming at home – starting this weekend with the visit of Farsley Celtic.

This fixture will see the first ever meeting between the two clubs following Farsley’s promotion to this level last season.

Our visitors on Saturday have enjoyed a good first half of the season so far and currently sit in fifth place with some 36 points from their 22 games. However, as can be seen by this tally, a victory for us on Saturday will see us draw to within four points of Celtic.

Manager Rob Smith was looking for more from his team against a side currently in the play-off positions.

He said:

“Tomorrow we welcome Farsley Celtic to Keys Park, a team who are having an excellent season and who always provide a tough game.

“Last week’s break came at a good time for us, but on Tuesday against Newcastle Town we could still only name 13 players on the team sheet due to injuries, suspensions, and loan recalls.

“It is pleasing to go through to the next round and now we have a run of home games in the league, how we get on in these games before Christmas will define how our season can pan out in the New Year.”

The manager is once again sweating on the fitness of Ben Bailey, Jim Mutton, Tom Thorley and Danny Glover who are all currently carrying injuries. James Fitzgibbon is expected to available again though after missing the midweek victory over Newcastle Town due to injury.

Smith has though been able to boost his squad with the arrival of midfielder Laurence Taylor on a month’s loan from Altrincham who joins the Pitmen until New Year’s Day.

The game kicks off at the usual time of 3pm and Strikers Bar will be open to all supporters both before and after the match.
