Rousing Finish By Pitmen Sees Off Buxton

A stoppage time header by Cheyenne Dunkley secured a stirring comeback by Hednesford Town as Rob Smith’s men rallied from a goal down to win a pulsating match 3-2.
The Pitmen starting like a train in the opening twenty minutes with Danny Quinn latching onto a superbly weighted through ball from Chris Clements to open the scoring shortly after Clements himself had missed a great one-on-one opportunity.
The home side failed to capitalise on their early dominance and by the twenty-eighth minute Buxton deservedly equalised when, following hesitant defending, Kieran Lugsden swept the ball past Dan Crane at the back post.
Quinn scuffed a volleyed opportunity straight at Scott Hartley on thirty-five minutes as The Pitmen failed to replicate the swift passing football of the opening period and Buxton finished the first half strongly.
The second half saw a similar story and the away side deservedly took the lead as the impressive Lugsden held off Pedro Monteiro, let the ball drop and finished confidently into the far corner on fifty-six minutes.
An exasperated Keys Park crowd howled cries of frustration as a dramatic sunset unfolded in the sky but once Nick Wellecome, Marvin Robinson and Jamey Osborne were introduced as substitutes, The Pitmen pressed for an equaliser and found a vociferous reaction from their faithful supporters.
Crane saved superbly from a rasping Martin Pembleton drive but, within sixty seconds, Hednesford were awarded a penalty for a perceived foul on Wellecomme and Chris Clements coolly converted from the spot with sixteen minutes to go.
Marvin Robinson proved what a pivotal figure he will be this season as he completely unsettled the Buxton defence and despite the heroics of Scott Hartley the winner finally came as, for the second time within a week, Dunkley headed a Clements cross into the net to win the match for The Pitmen at the death.
