Match Preview: Guiseley AFC (H)

Friday 12/09/2014

Hednesford Town boss Rob Smith can finally begin to plan his team selection confident that a number of his key players have returned to the fold and are ready to face Guiseley on Saturday afternoon at Keys Park with James Hurst, Tom Thorley and Paul Sullivan ready to build on Tuesday’s win against Hyde.

Hurst and Thorley, two vital players in the starting eleven completed another 90 minutes during the 1-0 victory in midweek with Sullivan continuing his return to fitness and the Hednesford manager is now missing just three players through injury.

‘It’s great to have so many players back with Francino Francis and Ben Bailey also available. James Hurst is getting fitter by the game and in my opinion he is the best right back in the league. We are still desperate to have the two ex-Brackley boys back as well as Marvin Robinson but things are improving and with the likes of McCone, Thorley, Sullivan and Hurst returning we will only get stronger.’

Hednesford’s opponents on Saturday are currently lying in fourth place in the standings having made a good start to the season and despite losing to Gloucester City and Gainsborough Trinity the Lions have beaten both Leamington and Brackley since the start of the season.

Due to such appalling luck with injuries The Pitmen’s season feels like it is yet to properly spring into life but, with every game that passes, Rob Smith will be more and more excited at the prospects of his Hednesford side, starting with a tricky test on Saturday.
