Match Preview: Whitby Town (H)

Friday 26/08/2016

The Pitmen make a quick return to Keys Park as they host Whitby Town on Saturday, looking to get back to winning ways in the league and build on a positive second half on Monday evening against Marine AFC.

This weekend’s visitors have made an unbeaten start to the season, which currently sees them sitting one place above us in the table – after claiming two victories and a draw so far.

Our last meeting with Whitby came in April 2013 when we were able to record a comprehensive 4-0 victory as we continued our promotion push.

After suffering defeat last weekend and coming from behind to draw on Monday against Marine, Liam McDonald is once again expecting another tough encounter this weekend against a side that have yet to taste defeat this season in the league.

He said:

“On Saturday we face a good Whitby Town side. I’ve played against them in my career a number of times and have always had tough matches against them.

“They are very much a footballing side, one of few in this league, and I’m expecting another tough game.

“I believe that this will be the first time since the Spennymoor game that we will be able to get the ball down and play football with it.”

The Pitmen manager will once again be without Lewis Wright who is still recovering from a hamstring injury. James Mutton and Callum Flanagan have both suffered knocks this week but they are expected to be fit. Midfielder Simeon Maye meanwhile is another one struggling with a foot injury that he picked up over the course of last weekend.

Striker Jamie Matthews is also set to begin a three game ban, subject to an appeal with a decision due Friday, for his sending off last weekend.
