Our attention turns towards the Buildbase FA Trophy this weekend as the Pitmen make the trip across to Lincolnshire to take on Stamford AFC.
This First Qualifying Round clash sees us coming up against a Stamford side that currently play in the Evo-Stik Division One South, and are currently looking forward to a trip to Hartlepool United in the Emirates FA Cup First Round after performing a giant-killing act in the last round against Wrexham.
Our last visit to Stamford, albeit on a different ground to Saturday, came almost three years ago to the day when we defeated them 2-0 in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup to set up a tie against Crawley Town at Keys Park.
After making progress in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Monday evening, manager Liam McDonald was expecting another tight game this weekend.
“We are looking forward to Saturday, although it will be another tough game for us. Stamford have recently beaten Wrexham in the FA Cup, so they have got their tails up at the moment.
“Although it is going to be a tough game for us we shall go there with confidence as we look to go and do our thing and make sure that we are competitive.
“We are now looking to have a run in this competition as the FA Cup was a massive disappointment to us all.”
The manager will have a fully fit squad to choose from for the game with both Jim Mutton and Danny Glover having trained on Thursday evening after having to miss out on the matchday squad in the last two games due to injury.
NOTE: There is enough parking at the ground for about 110 cars, as well as two coaches. Additional parking is available at Travis Perkins two minutes’ walk from the ground.
