Match Preview: Sutton Coldfield Town (A)

Tuesday 04/10/2016

It is a quick return to action for the Pitmen as they make the short journey to Sutton Coldfield Town this evening looking to bounce back from the disappointment of losing on Saturday to Buxton in controversial circumstances.

It will be the first meeting between the sides since 2013 when on that occasion the Pitmen ran out 4-1 winners in the final of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

You have to go back over 24 years ago to find the last league meeting though, with Sutton recording a 2-0 victory back in April 1992 during our time in the Southern League Midland Division.

Manager Liam McDonald was hoping that his side could respond straight away following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Buxton.

He commented:

“I said to the players after the game on Saturday that we have got an important match on Tuesday night and it gives us a chance to bounce back straight away.

“We have to put the weekend behind us as quickly as we can and go and perform against Sutton Coldfield. It is a derby game so will be another tough one for us that is for sure.

“The fixtures keep coming thick and fast, which is probably the most promising thing for us as we can’t dwell on things.”

McDonald will have a fully fit squad of players to pick from for the match that kicks off at 7.45pm.
