Match Preview: Marine (A)

Saturday 15/04/2017

The Pitmen return to league action this afternoon when we play our penultimate away Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division fixture of this season with a trip to Marine.

Our hosts today still haven’t secured their place at this level of football for next season, albeit they do sit some eight points above the bottom four, meaning that they have it all to play for.

This is a stark contrast from when we met right at the start of the season when Marine were unbeaten as they arrived at Keys Park and we played out an entertaining 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile we go into the game looking to put a thoroughly forgettable performance against Chasetown in the Staffordshire Senior Cup in midweek behind us.

Something manager Gary Birch was all too aware off as we prepare for our first trip to Marine in four years.

He said: “The players were certainly made aware and understand how much of a big let-down that the game against Chasetown was. They know that the performance was not good enough with them also having fallen short in the targets that we set them for the final run-in.

“Now all we have to play for is pride but we go into these last few games aiming to finish as high in the table as we can.”

On the injury front the manager will be without Tom Thorley (calf) and David McDermott (calf) while Danny Glover will also be assessed after picking up an injury during the game in midweek. As physio Gavin Blackwell explained ahead of the game, any significant injuries in the last month usually lead to a player missing the rest of the season, with us now finding ourselves in this situation.
