Coalville Town 2-1 Hednesford Town

Wednesday 14/08/2019

Pitmen slip to a narrow defeat at Coalville. ..

Coalville Town 2 (Dean 14, Duggan 63), Hednesford Town 1(Glover 80)

Despite a late kick off due to a traffic delay, it was the Pitmen who made the livelier of starts during the opening exchanges. However the good work was undone in the 14th minute when Tom McGlinchey crossed to the far post, allowing Alex Dean to fire into the roof of the net to give the home side the lead.

The game took an unpleasant turn in the 39th minute when Billy Daniels sustained a facial injury following an apparent elbow from Joe Doyle-Charles, who escaped with a yellow card. Daniels took no further part in the game and was replaced by Liam Truslove.

Brad Wells went into the referee’s book for a challenge on Doyle-Charles before the half time break.

HT: 1-0

The Pitmen started the second half with purpose as they looked to get back into the game, with Kieran Wells replacing brother Brad on the hour.

In the 63rd minute a corner from Dean presented a free header to defender Jack Duggan who doubled the home side’s lead.

Osebi Abadaki replaced the injured Ben O’Hanlon, using his pace to have an immediate impact on the game, drawing a number of fouls as he tormented the Ravens’ defence. Kieran Wells hooked an effort over the bar from Ben Bailey’s long throw.

In the 80th minute a great run and cross from Abadaki was nodded back across the goal by Wells with Danny Glover sneaking between a defender and the goalkeeper to get on the scoresheet.

The final 10 minutes were dominated by the Pitmen. After an awful tackle on Abadaki, Doyle-Charles was eventually given his marching orders by the referee. A series of corners for the Pitmen failed to produce a breakthrough. In added time Saul Deeney superbly tipped over a goal bound effort from Kieran Morris, while Kieran Wells headed against the bar in the closing moments, giving the home side all three points on a frustrating night for the Pitmen.
