Redditch United v Hednesford Town (A)

Monday 04/11/2019

Hednesford Town continue their travels on Tuesday night as we face Redditch United in the Second Round of the League Challenge Cup. A much changed Pitmen side saw off Coleshill Town in the previous round with goals from Enoch Andoh, Tom Fry, Brad Wells and Izak Reid. Redditch overcame league rivals Alvechurch 2-1 with a brace from Jak Hickman following Kyle Perry’s opener.

The Pitmen were 4-0 winners in October’s league encounter with the Reds at Keys Park, with goals from Reece King, Tom Elliott and two from Andre Brown.

Ahead of the game Gary Hayward said; “You can’t read too much into what happened in the league game, this is the League Cup and it is likely that both teams will try something different, with a packed fixture list throughout November we will need to use our squad effectively.”

Sam Griffiths and James Hurst were both substituted against Barwell on Saturday and are doubtful for Tuesday’s game, Ben O’Hanlon will be back in contention after returning to fitness following his long term absence through injury.

Following the disappointing final minutes of Saturday’s 4-4 draw at Barwell, Danny Glover had this message for Pitmen supporters; “I felt for 82 minutes we were well in control of the game, playing against a team who have been in decent form recently. However, the last seven minutes wasn’t acceptable from any of the lads on the field. A few of the older, more experienced players should of taken charge of the game to see it out. Yes, I know it must have been frustrating for the fans who turned out in good numbers again, all I can say is we really appreciate your support, there will be plenty more ups and downs this season but I know you will stick with us. We’re sorry for Saturday, we will learn from it quickly and put it right. We also have to be positive, normally this season if we’ve gained a lead we would keep it. We are still in a great position in the league and it’s only the start, nothing is won in November and we’ve got a massive game in the Trophy next weekend. Yes, for seven minutes it wasn’t acceptable but it’s gone now. This squad is good enough to put it right and we will put it right! Hopefully starting tomorrow night at Redditch, see you there!”
