The versatile Callam Mendez-Jones will remain with the Pitmen for his third season along with full back Sam Griffiths who has also committed to us for the new season. Former West Brom defender Wes Atkinson suffered an horrific injury in pre season last time out to end his involvement for 12 months but we are pleased to say that he has agreed to stay with us for the new campaign and is back to fighting fitness. Carter Lycett has followed up on captaining England Schoolboys at the weekend to agree a new deal to remain a Pitman for 2020/21. Former Bristol Rovers midfielder Charlie Ten-Grotenhuis joined just before the season was curtailed and has agreed to remain a Pitman for the 2020/21 season. Versatile wide man George Cater arrived last season from Chasetown and is another who will be staying with us next season as will Oli Waddison who followed up his fantastic brace for his country during England schoolboys 6-1 victory at the weekend. The midfield being completed by our new arrivals Brad Birch from Bromsgrove and former Wolves midfielder Todd Parker who recently arrived at the club.
ATTACKERS
It’s a new look strike force with some familiarity for the Pitmen as Andre Brown has agreed to extend his stay at the PRG Stadium @Keys Park following his arrival from Nuneaton last season. He will be of course joined by Gibraltar international Reece Styche, returning Pitmen hero Kieran Wells and the versatile Andre Landell who arrived yesterday.
These existing and new players will of course be supported by our academy scholars several of whom featured last season including Numair Rashad, Romehl Seraton and Sam Wollaston. These youngsters and several others will be knocking on the first team door for the season ahead and hoping to make their breakthrough.
It’s an exciting squad for the new season and we are delighted with both the players who have committed to continuing their Pitmen careers and the new faces who have come into the squad.
Manager Keenen Meakin-Richards said “ this is an exciting squad to have, every player will be needed as it’s a long season of course but we have targeted the players we have brought in very deliberately and we are really pleased with the lads who are staying with us. It’s great for the club to be unique in getting our squad settled and working together very early and every one of the players we have fit what we are looking for both in terms of on pitch ability and their values off the pitch, I can’t wait to get back to having fans in the stadium next month and we are really looking forward to seeing all the lads again ready for pre season”.
